The Madonna of the Goldfinch

The Madonna of the Goldfinch is an oil painting on canvas 107 cm x 77 built in 1506 about the Italian painter Raphael during his stay in the Tuscan capital .

The painting was created for Lorenzo Nasi, a rich merchant of cloth of wool , on the occasion of his marriage to Sandra Canigiari woman belonging high bourgeoisie of Florence. In 1547
the work was reduced into 17 parts due to the collapse of the house which was in place, affected by the landslide of the hill on which the building rested. The fragments were recovered and put back together. The damage suffered, he wrote in 1568 Giorgio Vasari: "Found the pieces among the rubble of the ruins were from the Baptist, son of Lorenzo, most loving art, made in putting together this best it could."

After a series of clumsy nineteenth-century restoration, the work has undergone nine years of careful restoration, culminating in a return presscohè value of the painting and coloring. After presentation of the exhibition at Palazzo Medici Riccardi, ended March 1, 2009, now Madonna of the Goldfinch is once again its rightful place in the Galleria degli Uffizi
